"U Bais": un soprannome che risale al XVIII° secolo.
Il versatile Rocco Giordano dal proprio antenato Antonio,
ricco possidente dell'epoca, ricordato dalla storia perchè
usava pagare in natura i propri dipendenti con pesate eque,
garbate, "baisate".
U Bais, dunque come sinonimo di persona giusta e...
basata !!
Un concetto recepito alla lettera
nella gestione dei rinomati ristoranti
"Grotta Azzurra" e da qualche anno,
"Il Pirata", sito nell'incantevole Chianalea.
"U Bais", oggi, è anche Hotel.
Concepito con il preciso intento di dare
ai clienti il massimo comfort.
Peculiare la collocazione sia del Ristorante "Grotta
Azzurra" sia dell'Hotel "U Bais", vicini tra
loro e a due passi dalla leggendaria Rocca di Scilla sulla
quale si erge, maestoso il Castello.

pregievole sbocciato tra mari e monti nella Sua originale e
selvaggia bellezza è una delle cittadine più conosciute
dell'intera Calabria.
Sorge su un massiccio roccioso di fronte allo Stretto
di Messina e si protende sul
mare limpidissimo con straordinari fondali intorno al quale
in ogni epoca pullularono
molte leggende di cui la più famosa e conosciuta è quella
del mostro marino
immortalato da Omero nell'Odissea.
Scilla con il suo splendido mare, con la sua splendida
spiaggia di Marina Grande,
e con la Chianalea, mitico borgo antico Residenza dei
pescatori, è oggi un paese
molto accogliente dotato anche di un porticciolo.
La sua economia che prima era basata quasi
esclusivamente sulla pesca ora si è lentamente trasformata
in una florida attività Turistica. Rimane comunque molto
praticata, nel periodo che va da Aprile a Giugno la
tradizionale pesca del Pesce Spada
esercitata oramai da millenni, lungo il tratto di costa
Calabra.

The origins of the nickname "U Bais" can be traced as far
back as the
18th century, and specifically to Rocco Giordano.
This direct descendant of Antonio was a versatile and
wealthy
landowner who, as history tells it, was famous for paying
his workers in
kind, and in weights that were fair, good "well-balanced"
(baisate).
And so, now U Bais has come to mean any person who is fair
and ... well-balanced!!
This same concept has also been
put into practice, right down to the smallest
details, by the management of the renowned
"Grotta Azzurra" restaurant, and recently
to the "Il Pirata", located in the
enchanting village of Chianalea.
Today, "U Bais" is also a splendid Hotel,
carefully designed to provide guests with
every comfort imaginable.
The "Grotta Azzurra" restaurant is located near the "U
Bais" hotel, and both are just a
short distance away from the legendary Rocca di Scilla on
top of which rises the famous Castle.

antique furniture and images portraying
Scilla from the past and present.
Everything has been carefully designed

"Sognatrice" (The Woman Dreamer),
"Le Sirene" (The Syrens),
"Ulisse" (Ulysses),
"Scilla e Cariddi",
"Romantica" (Romantic), which lend a touch of local charm
to the hotel.

Scilla: Scilla is like
a rare flower that miraculously blossomed right in the
middle of the
mountains and the sea.
Its one of a kind wild beauty
makes it one of the most
beloved cities in all of Calabria.

Today Scilla boasts a flourishing tourist activity, but
at one time the
economy of the area was almost entirely dependent on
fishing as a means of income,
which left its indelible mark on the area. Swordfish
fishing, which takes place from
April to June, is a deeply rooted tradition that is still
practiced along the
Calabrian coast today, just like it has been for millions
of years.
