La Niobide:
Nel 1906, durante i lavori di scavo per le fondamenta del
palazzo che ospita l'hotel Medici, venne ritrovata la
Niobide.
Colpita da una freccia alle spalle nel corso della strage
che Apollo e Artemide compirono sui figli di Niobe, questa
giovane donna ebbe a cadere su una delle sue ginocchia e,
nel disperato tentativo di strapparsi la freccia dal dorso,
il manto le sfuggì, mettendo a nudo gran parte della sua
bella persona.
La statua, del V° secolo a.C., può essere oggi ammirata al
museo Nazionale Romano nelle Terme di Diocleziano.

The Niobide:
In 1906 the excavations for the construction of the hotel
Medici building unearthed the statue of Niobide (V c.B.C.)
.
The niobide is represented as a wounded young woman falling
on her knees, while trying to pull out an arrow from her
shoulder,which causes the fall of her cloak and shows the
beaty of her naked body. According to the legend the young
woman was wounded by Apollo and Artemideduring the
slaughter of the Niobe sons.
The statue is now at the museo nazionale romano, in the
Baths of Diocleziano.
