Ubicazione: L’Hotel Croce di Malta sorge a due passi sia dal fiume Arno che dalla Stazione Ferroviaria di Santa Maria Novella. L’Albergo sorge in quello che fino alla metà del ’800 era l’antico convento delle Suore della Carità dove venivano accolte le “fanciulle oneste e povere” di Firenze. Il convento venne costruito su un preesistente edificio di epoca romana. Da tale edificio provengono sculture e rilievi marmorei, nonché una splendida colonna decorata da un capitello ionico che oggi possono essere ammirati nei vari ambienti dell’Albergo. La sua struttura è un’armoniosa fusione tra le forme rinascimentali toscane e le ricerche architettoniche contemporanee. Gli spazi e le decorazioni degli interni nascono da forme geometriche essenziali e pure, dove un attento gioco di pieni e vuoti crea un’atmosfera particolare e moderna.

Le Camere: Tutte le 98 stanze sono arredate secondo i canoni della più classica eleganza dove i mobili sono frutto di una attenta lavorazione artigianale e le vedute su tavola, rigorosamente dipinte a mano, richiamano i capolavori del quattro-cinquecento toscano. Qui, la tradizione contadina incontra quella dei pescatori del Mar Tirreno, ed ecco, tra le specialità, la ribollita tipica fiorentina, la “Pappa” di funghi porcini e melanzane, la Chianina alla rucola ed i piatti a base di pesce fresco come il Caciucco alla Livornese o il Branzino agli aromi.

The hotel is located in what up until the mid 1800’s was the old Suore della Carità (Sisters of Charity) convent, which offered hospitality to Florence’s “poor, virtuous maidens”.
The convent was built on a pre-existing building from Roman times. Marble sculptures and reliefs date back from this period, as well as a splendid column decorated with an Ionic capital that can still be admired today in various areas of the hotel.
Its structure is a harmonious fusion of Tuscan renaissance forms and contemporary architectural design. The rooms and interior decoration stem from essential, pure geometrical forms where the meticulous play of full and empty shapes creates a special, modern ambience.
