HOTEL SILLA

Dal 1964 la famiglia Belotti ha il piacere di ospitare i propri clienti in questo palazzo del XVI secolo.

Storia: Si accede all'albergo attraversando un caratteristico cortile, che prima della costruzione dei "Lungarni", si affacciava direttamente sulle sponde del fiume.

Il Palazzo e chiamato "Amici" in onore dello scienziato Giovan Battista Amici, che vi ha dimorato durante il XVII secolo. Amici ha sapientemente contribuito allo sviluppo del telescopio e del microscopio, oltre ad aver partecipato alla creazione del famoso Osservatorio Astronomico di Arcetri.

Durante la Seconda Guerra Mondiale, il Palazzo è stato utilizzato come base per le truppe alleate ed alla fine della guerra, e stato donato all'Ordine delle Sorelle della Madonna della Consolata, che vi hanno soggiornato fino al 1964, anno dell'apertura dell' albergo.

L'albergo è situato nel quartiere di San Niccolò, con vista sull'Arno e con affacci sul Giardino Demidoff, costruito in memoria del filantropo russo che amava Firenze e che vi ha soggiornato nel vicino Palazzo Serristori. Sul retro dell'albergo si entra nel cuore del vecchio quartiere da dove, attraversando l'arco di Porta San Niccolò, si può raggiungere il famoso Piazzale Michelangiolo. Negli ultimi anni il quartiere ha goduto di una rinascita con l'apertura di ristoranti, negozi, che affiancano vecchie botteghe di artigianato.

Since 1964 the Belotti family has had the pleasure of hosting guests at the Hotel Silla in its charming 16th century palace on the left bank of the Arno River.

History: Entering the building you cross a typical Florentine style courtyard which, before the construction of the "Lungarni" (streets that run along the river), gave directly onto the banks of the Arno. The palace is named "Amici" after the illustrious scientist Giovan Battista Amici who lived there in the 18th century. Amici greatly contributed to the development of the telescope and microscope and also participated in the construction of the famous astronomic observatory in Arcetri.

The hotel is situated in medieval Florence's quarter San Niccolò with views of the river and the Demidoff Garden which was built in memory of the Russian philanthropist who loved Florence and lived in the nearby Serristori palace. Behind the hotel one enters the very heart of San Niccolò, the western edge of the old city. From here, through the archway of the Porta San Miniato, you can walk up the hill to Piazzale Michelangelo. In recent years the quarter of San Niccolò has enjoyed a rebirth with the opening of new restaurants and shops that sit alongside traditional artisan workshops.
