VILLA SAN GIORGIO

La Villa: Villa S. Giorgio è una grande e accogliente villa posta sul versante di una collina tra Firenze e Siena. Solo pochi anni fa era praticamente un fienile abbandonato ma il nuovo proprietario l’ ha ricostruita con cura meticolosa, convertendo il vecchio edificio in una splendida casa di campagna piena di charme e di calore. Tutti gli interni sono arredati con gusto utilizzando pezzi moderni e pezzi della tradizione toscana che si armonizzano con i pavimenti in cotto antico e i soffitti in travi di castagno e mezzane. Una loggia, spaziosa e arredata, si trova fuori dalla cucina e dispone di una zona ombreggiata dove mangiare al fresco.

Giardino: Il giardino ben curato, che circonda la casa, assicura una privacy completa e conduce ad una grande piscina posizionata strategicamente per godere della vista migliore.

La Cucina: La grande cucina è ben attrezzata (lavastoviglie, forno, frigorifero doppio americano con ice-dispenser)e dispone di un bel camino. Come in ogni casa di origine contadina la cucina è forse lo spazio principe, dove la famiglia si ritrovava a gustare quei piatti toscani che qui possono essere assaporati anche dagli ospiti, su richiesta.

La Sala: Entrando nella sala, già si capisce che chi ha restaurato questa casa lo ha fatto con grande cura e passione. Il pavimento è in cotto antico, il soffitto in travi di castagno e mezzane, tutti materiali messi insieme con le tecniche costruttive di un tempo e con l'attenzione al comfort del vivere contemporaneo. Si rimane impressionati dalla cura di ogni dettaglio. Il camino con il grosso architrave in pietra, i gradini e le soglie in pietra serena scalpellinata, le pareti decorate. Aperto sulla sala troviamo un soppalco disposto a studio con due divani che possono trasformarsi in comodi letti.

Le Camere: Le tre camere, sempre in armonia con lo stile architettonico delle case rurali, si trovano al piano superiore, raggiungibili tramite una scala con scalini di pietra ed inserti in legno. Pavimento a parquet.

I Bagni: tre bagni non appartengono al mondo antico ma a quello della più moderna tecnologia del benessere. Non manca niente, neppure l'idromassaggio; ma anche la fredda tecnologia qui è avvolta da quel tepore che ti accompagna in ogni angolo della casa.

La Piscina: E' chiaro che non c'è sempre stata, che è un'aggiunta postuma ma questa chiazza di fresco azzurro ritagliato sul verde del prato è perfettamente in armonia con il resto della casa. Il bordo piscina in legno scuro offre una straordinaria sensazione alle piante dei piedi, puoi tuffarti in acqua da qui o, se preferisci, farlo dal trampolino, L'importante è godere del refrigerio, impagabile toccasana nella calura estiva.

Relax: Sulla terrazza sopra la piscina possiamo sederci a bere qualcosa o sdraiarci sull'amaca e dondolarci dolcemente mentre respiriamo l'aria fresca della sera. Dalle colline di fronte ci raggiungono echi lontane dei lavori nei campi. Un quarto bagno ricavato sotto la terrazza che si affaccia sulla piscina ospita anche la sauna, per completare il quadro dell'offerta relax.

Escursioni: Anche se in questa confortevole Villa nella splendida campagna toscana si sta così bene che non si vorrebbe mai uscire di casa, il circondario offre una delle più alte concentrazioni del mondo di città d'arte da visitare, gustosi ristoranti in cui assaporare piatti tipici ed enoteche in cui degustare i moltissimi vini locali di qualità. Solo per citarne alcune, dalle celeberrime Firenze, Siena, Pisa, Lucca, che basterebbero da sole per farsi cogliere dalla sindrome di Stendhal, alle più piccole ma ugualmente deliziose S. Gimignano, Volterra, Cortona, Pienza. Distanze: 3 km Poggibonsi, 15 km S: Gimignano, 35 km Firenze, 30 km Siena, 45 km aeroporto di Firenze.

The Villa: We have arrived; the narrow dirt road that steeply climbs the hill welcomes us with its dust, and the playful barking of dogs. I try to peek inside from over the wall that surrounds it, when my friend opens the gate that leads into the garden. I walk in slowly so that I may enjoy every sensation to the full. The fragrance of lavender and other aromatic plants is the ideal background for this splendid, blooming garden, which embraces the house on three sides. My host tells me the history of this house. Just a few years ago, it was to all practical purposes an abandoned hayloft, but the new owners meticulously rebuilt it, with the intention of using it as their own home. But the family is somehow held back by their old working rhythms, and the house is inhabited only a few months of the year. Therefore, the decision is made to rent it and offer it to those who know how to appreciate its value, even just for short periods of time.

The Kitchen: As in every house of rural origin, the kitchen is perhaps the main space, where the family gathered after a day of work to enjoy those typical dishes that we still find today on Tuscan tables and that, on request, can be tasted and savoured here by the guests also.

The Living Room: Entering the living room, we already realize that the person who restored this house did it with the intention of living in it with his own family. The floor is done in old terracotta tiles, the ceiling in chestnut beams and bricks, all authentic materials put togeter anew using the building techniques of long ago, and with particular care towards the comforts of contemporary living. I am impressed by the attention paid to every detail. The chimney with the large stone architrave, the steps and thresholds in chiseled "pietra serena", the decorated walls.

Bedrooms: Still according to the architectural concept of rural houses, the three bedrooms are on the upstairs floor, and can be reached by climbing a staircase with stone steps punctuated here and there by wooden inserts. We are tempted to take off our shoes to feel the imperceptible creaking of the durmast parquet floor beneath our feet.

I Bagni: The three bathrooms do not belong to the days of long ago, but to the world of the most modern technology aimed at well-being. Nothing is missing; not even the hydro massage, but here even cold technology is enveloped by that warmth that accompanies you in every corner of the house.

The Swimming pool: This obviously was not an original part of the house but was added later on; however, this patch of cool blue cut into the green lawn is in perfect harmony with the rest of the house. The dark wood edge of the pool offers an extraordinary sensation to the soles of your feet; you can dive into the water from here or, if you prefer, from the diving board. The important thing is to enjoy the relief of the cool water, a priceless remedy for the summer heat.

Relaxation: We sit and enjoy a drink on the balcony overlooking the pool, or else lie in the hammock that gently rocks us as we breathe in the cool evening air. From the hills across the way, distant echoes of work going on in the fields. A fourth bathroom, built under the terrace that overlooks the pool, also has a sauna, which completes the picture of the relaxation offer.


Excursions: Even though the house is so pleasant that one would like never to leave it, the countryside around offers one of the world's most concentrated areas of cities of art to be visited, delightful restaurants in which to savour typical dishes, as well as wine cellars in which to sample the many high quality local wines. Just to mention a few of them, from the renowned cities of Florence, Siena, Pisa, and Lucca, which alone would be enough to cause us to be overcome by Stendhal's syndrome, to the smaller but equally delightful S. Gimignano, Volterra, Cortona, Pienza.
