Where we are: Detailed Directions and “Landmarks”To Badia di Pomaio
Exit Autostrada A1 (Milano – Firenze – Roma) at the Arezzo exit. Hotel Badia di Pomaio is approximately 19 Km from the Arezzo toll-booth. After the toll-both there is a roundabout (traffic circle) with directional signs. Follow the signs toward Arezzo and Bibbiena., which will take you approximately 8 Km on a connecting road to Arezzo. For a time, follow the signs to Bibbiena.
(If you are unfamiliar with roundabouts, the traffic moves counterclockwise, and autos inside the roundabout have the right-of-way. Autos approaching the roundabout must yield until a way is clear to enter the roundabout. Use your indicators for lane changes. Stay left till almost ready to exit the roundabout; then signal right turn and move to right.)
Along the way you may see a few signs to Badia di Pomaio, but it is hoped that the following detail will also help. After passing a large “ribbed” (unmarked) steel building on your left side, the first large landmark you will probably recognize is the Ipercoop, a large supermarket and electronics mall, etc. (on your Left). Follow the signs for Bibbiena only a short distance past the Ipercoop (on your Left side), then use the following directions and landmarks:
(1) Continue, keeping the Ipercoop on your Left side and the large, pink Al Magnifico Cinemas building on your Right side.
(2) In approximately 1 Km or more from Ipercoop, and after you have passed the pink Al Magnifico Cinemas on your Right, you will enter the next roundabout. DO NOT follow Bibbiena signs anymore. Instead, turn at the first possible Right turn in that roundabout, signs pointing to “Arezzo” and “Stadio”.
(3) Continue approximately 4 Km on a long unmarked street, eventually to the backside of the church that marks the first Left turn toward Badia di Pomaio.
You should see some of the following “landmarks”:SILVERCAR sign (on Left). IP Gasoline Station. ERG Gasoline Station
Go straight on through the next roundabout [presently under construction] -- (in other words, half-way around it).
(*This round-about also has a sign to Pietri Parking, but do not take that first right turn, which leads you under an ancient arch, to Pietri Parking, where later you can go if you want to visit the main sights in Arezzo: the Duomo, the Piazza Grande, etc., and where you will find sets of escalators [“escala mobile”] which take you to the Duomo.)
Instead, when you turn off this roundabout, half-way around it, follow signs toward Stadio (and Stazione, if that is signposted yet).
Landmarks:Mc Donald’s sign (but don’t follow it). Shell Gasoline Station. Soccer Field (on Left). API Gasoline Station
**Pass under the arches of the ancient Roman aqueduct Cemetery (not visible from street) but marked by a long and tall red brick wall (on your Right)
Small pine tree “garden” (next on your Right). You will see a stoplight and the backside of the church that marks your Left turn.(Be sure to turn left at the stoplight.)
***Turn LEFT at the stoplight – following signs to “Stadio” and “Stazione” -- (do not continue past the back of the church).
(4) After the left turn, the road descends. Continue approximately 1 Km to the next important Left turn.
Landmarks: Various shops/restaurants.You may see Arte Della Tenda on Right.Small children’s playground on Left. 3 ft.+ stone wall, then soccer field on Left.
***Badia di Pomaio sign (stating 4300 m.) on Left.
***Then, after a very short block, take the very next, quick left turn at the Tobacco shop (with balcony), where road signs point to Pomaio, Poti, and Mulinelli.
(5) Continue approximately 2 Km through less populated suburbs. At some point you will see the “end of Arezzo” sign. At some point you will see the Via Della Conserve sign, marking approximately 4 Km further to the hotel. Continue past the Mulinelli turn-off (which goes to the right, but do not take that turn). Stay to the LEFT.
(6) After passing the Mulinelli road, the asphalt road to the hotel becomes narrower and more winding, as it climbs to the hotel.
Landmarks:Mika Torrefazione (on right)
Continue on, bearing left and straight ahead. There are at least two small forks in the road, stay Left, even though a Pomaio road exits to the right. At the next small fork, follow the Badia di Pomaio sign to the left and continue (past other driveways) till you see the wooden poles, green wire fencing, and small sign marking the Badia di Pomaio parking lot.
***Make a quick Right turn down into the hotel parking lot. You will see car stalls covered with bamboo “roofing”.
***From the parking lot you can drive up a road on your Right to the patio in front of the hotel – for unloading (or loading) your baggage.
If you miss the turn into the parking lot, you will come to a gate at the backside of the hotel, which is inaccessible, and will need to return to theparking lot.
Reverse directions and Right/Left indications for trip from Badia di Pomaio back to the Autostrade.
